Every Book Finds a Home

Books that are a little too tattered or old to sell go immediately out to our free cart, which is a popular spot appreciated.

Every Book Finds a Home!

So what happens to the books you donate? The newest go directly into the Friends Bookstore.  The others are packed right up and stored for our monthly sales.  Books that are a little too tattered or old to sell go immediately out to our free cart, which is a popular spot appreciated by all our Library patrons.

But what about after the monthly sales? What happens to the books that no one purchases? The Friends of the Danville Library have partnered with many groups to share the books that our patrons have so generously donated.  And it’s especially important to us that our books get to people in need. Love a Child Missions in Bay Point has been serving homeless women and children in Contra Costa County since 1984.  They provide emergency shelter, food, and clothing, as well as substance recovery programs, job training, and educational support.  It's our privilege to supply them with books.

Another one of our partnerships has been with Maktabas, a Bay Area charity with a special literacy goal: to bring books to the children of Kenya.  Their mission is to bridge the literacy AND the availability gap between Kenya’s school children and the rest of the world.  They take books from organizations like the Friends and ship them to Kenya. So far, their containers of books have been delivered to all 47 counties in Kenya. We couldn’t be happier that our books have found appreciative homes on the other side of the world.
